Gorloks Knock Off 18th Ranked WashU

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This evening the Webster University men's basketball team played host to the 18th ranked Washington (Mo.) University Bears in their first home game of the regular season. The Gorloks defeated the Bears by a final score of 72-60 to improve to 1-2 on the season. With the loss, the Bears fall to 1-1 on the season.

Webster played well in this one as they went 30-for-67 (44.8%) from the floor and 7-for-21 (33.3%) from behind the arc while holding the Bears to 33.8 percent shooting from the floor. They turned the ball over just eight times in the contest while forcing the Bears to turn the ball over nine times. The Gorloks outrebounded the Bears by a final count of 44-40 and finished with 10 second chance points.

The Gorloks came out in the first half and found themselves trailing 7-3 in the first few minutes of the game. They settled in as the half progressed and were able to tie the score at seven before an 8-2 run put the Bears up 15-9 midway through the half. Webster battled back over the next few minutes and were able to tie the score at 15 before going on a 15-8 run to take a 30-23 lead late in the period. The game remained close over the final few minutes of the half but the Gorloks were able to take a 38-33 lead into the locker room.

In the second half of the game, Washington University came out and quickly cut the Gorloks lead to three. However, an 8-2 run from Webster gave them a 46-37 lead with just over 17 minutes to play in the game. The Bears clawed their way in it and were able to tie the score at 51 as the game remained close for most of the second half. With the Gorloks trailing 56-55 with 6:31 left to play, they were able to end the game on a 17-4 run to pick up their first win of the season.

Wynne Brown Jr. led the way for Webster as he finished with a team high 15 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Karl Moore Jr. also had a nice game as he finished with a game high 18 rebounds to go along with 8 points and four blocked shots. In addition, Bryce Woolridge finished with 14 points, Mark Moore finished with nine points, and Jason Coleman added nine points for Webster.

The Gorloks will return to the court on Friday, November 19th when they host the University of Dallas (Texas) in their first game of the 2021 Webster Classic. This game will serve as Champions Night and during halftime the athletic department will honor the spring sport programs for their success this past season. The game is set to start at 8 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
