Gorloks Fall to Crusaders on Champions Night

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This evening the Webster University men's basketball team was back on the court when they played host to the University of Dallas in their first game of the Webster Classic. The Gorloks, fell to the Crusaders by a final score of 76-67 to fall to 1-3 on the year. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 2-1 on the season.

The Gorloks went 29-for-66 (43.9%) from the floor and 5-for-20 (25%) from behind the arc. They were outrebounded 35-31 and turned the ball over 12 times while forcing 16 turnovers on the other end. They were able to turn those turnovers into 19 points on the offensive end. Dallas shot the ball well in this one as they went 30-for-55 (54.5%) from the floor and 5-for-12 (41.7%) from behind the arc.

Webster came out in the first half and had a tough time getting anything going early as the Crusaders jumped out to a 7-2 lead. The Gorloks settled in as the half progressed and were able to take their first lead of the game with 6:52 left to play in the period. The game went back and forth down the final stretch of the half, but the Crusaders would take a 35-34 lead into the locker room.

At halftime, the Webster University Athletic Department celebrated Champions Night. The baseball, softball, golf, and women's tennis teams were all honored for their accomplishments this past spring. In addition, Will Hocker, the 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Golf National Champion, was given his ring for his incredible accomplishment.

Webster came on in the second half and was able to retake the lead with their first possession of the frame. The Crusaders bounced back and went on an 8-2 run to take a 43-38 lead with 18 minutes to play. The Gorloks answered back with a 9-0 run of their own, but another run from the Crusaders tied the score at 52 with 11:35 remaining in the contest. Dallas continued to push the tempo as the half progressed and held a 69-61 lead late in the game. Webster tried their best to get back into the contest but the Crusaders knocked down their shots in the final minutes to solidify the win.

Karl Moore Jr. led the way for the Gorloks as he finished with a team high 15 points and a team high 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the year. In addition to Karl Moore Jr., Wynne Brown Jr. finished with 13 points, Markus Becton finished with 12 points, and Bryce Woolridge added nine points to round out the top performers for Webster.

The Webster men's basketball team will be back in action tomorrow, November 20th when they play host to the Centre (Ky.) College Colonels in their final game of the Webster Classic. The game is set to start at 3 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
