ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This evening the Webster University women's basketball team was back in action when they played host to Hendrix (Ark.) College for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were able to defeat the Warriors by a final score of 87-47 to improve to 5-0 for the first time in program history. With the loss, the Warriors fall to 1-4 on the year.
Prior to the start of the game, the Webster University Athletic Department honored
Addison Beussink and Head Coach
Jordan Olufson for their career milestones. Beussink hit her 1,000
th career point in a win over Lake Forest last weekend while Olufson won his 200
th career game last weekend against Dominican.
The Gorloks went 30-for-75 (40%) from the floor and 6-for-22 (27.3%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Warriors by a final count of 45-38 and forced Hendrix to turn the ball over 30 times. They were able to turn those turnovers into 42 points on the other end. The Gorloks also dished out 15 assists on the night.
Webster got off to a good start in this one as they opened the game on a 7-0 run. The Warriors bounced back and cut the lead to three, but the Gorloks used an 11-5 run to take an 11-point lead in the quarter. The Warriors ended the first on a 5-1 run and the Gorloks took a 20-13 lead into the second. Webster came out in the second and quickly extended their lead to 14. They continued to push the tempo and took a 54-28 lead into the locker room.
Webster carried over their momentum into the second half and grew their lead to as many as 36 in the frame. They never took their foot off the gas and held a 74-40 lead heading into the fourth. Webster pushed their lead to 40 in the fourth and never looked back as they cruised to their fifth straight win.
Addison Beussink led the way for the Gorloks as she finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the year.
Julie Baudendistel also had a nice game as she also finished with 15 points. In addition,
Hannah Cottrell finished with 13 points and a team high four assists, while
Naomi Johnson added seven points to round out the top performers for Webster.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Tuesday, November 23
rd when they host the Stephens (Mo.) College Stars for a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 5:30 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
