Gorloks Improve to 6-0 on the Season

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This evening the Webster University women's basketball team was back on the court when they played host to the Stephens (Mo.) College Stars in a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Stars by a final score of 76-60 to improve to 6-0 for the first time in school history. With the loss, the Stars drop to 3-2 on the season.

The Gorloks went 25-for-66 (38.5%) from the floor and 7-for-18 (38.9%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Stars 34-32 and forced the Stars to turn the ball over 33 times. They turned those 33 turnovers into 29 points on the offensive end. The Gorloks also dished out 17 assists compared to six from the Stars.

Webster came out in the first half and jumped out to an early 9-2 lead. The Stars settled in as the half progressed and were able to cut the lead to two, but a 5-2 run from the Gorloks put them up 18-13 heading into the second.

Stephens College came out in the second quarter and were able to cut Webster's lead to one with just under eight minutes to play in the half. However, Webster answered with a 9-2 run to take a 30-21 advantage midway through the quarter. The Stars bounced back and were able to cut the lead to one, but a layup late in the half put Webster up 38-35 at the break.

Webster came out in the third quarter and went on a 12-1 run to start the frame to push their lead to 14. They continued to push the tempo as the quarter progressed and held a 58-45 lead heading into the fourth. The Gorloks extended their lead out to as many as 19 in the final frame and never let the Stars back into the game as they cruised to their sixth straight win.

Naomi Johnson led the way for the Gorloks as she finished with a game high 20 points. Addison Beussink also had a nice game as she finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. In addition, Julie Baudendistel finished with 11 points, Kate Rolfes finished with 12 points, and Lauryn Freeman finished with a game high six assists to round out the top performers for the Gorloks.

The Gorloks are back in action on Saturday, November 27th when they play host to the Augustana (Ill.) College Vikings in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to tip-off at 1 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
