Gorloks Come Up Short Against SEMO

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – This afternoon the Webster University men's basketball team traveled south to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to take on the Southeast Missouri State University Redhawks in an exhibition game. The Gorloks put up a fight against the NCAA Division I Redhawks but were defeated by a final score of 76-64. With the win, the Redhawks improve to 4-4 on the season.

Webster went 21-for-57 (36.8%) from the floor and 6-for-13 (46.2%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Redhawks 43-41 and forced them to turn the ball over eight times. The Gorloks dished out 10 assists in the contest while picking up one block.

In the first half of the game, both sides came out and had a tough time scoring the ball early. With the score tied at 14, the Redhawks went on a 9-2 run and held a 23-16 lead midway through the period. Webster battled back and were able to tie the score at 29, but a 5-2 run to end the half put the Redhawks up 34-31 at the break.

Southeast Missouri came out in the second half and quickly pushed their lead to eight. Webster bounced back and cut the lead to five, but another run from the Redhawks put them up 46-37 with 15 minutes to play in the game. The Gorloks continued to battle as the half progressed and were able to cut the lead to two, but a 12-2 run from the Redhawks put them up 66-54 late in the contest. Webster tried their best to get back into the game but the Redhawks closed them out down the stretch to solidify the win.

Wynne Brown Jr. led the way for the Gorloks as he finished with a team high 26 points. Karl Moore Jr. also had a nice game as he finished with nine points and a game high 12 rebounds. In addition, Mark Moore finished with 12 points and three assists while Markus Becton and Stephen Hawkins both added six points.

The Gorloks will return to the court on Monday, December 6th when they play host to the Baptist Bible (Mo.) College Patriots in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 6 p.m.
