ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This evening the Webster University men's basketball team was back on the court when they played host to the Baptist Bible (Mo.) College Patriots in a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks fell by a final score of 81-79 to fall to 1-6 on the season. With the win, the Patriots improve to 6-2 on the year.
The Gorloks went 32-for-78 (41.0%) from the floor and 10-for-35 (28.6%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Patriots 45-39 and forced them to turn the ball over 13 times. The Gorloks dished out 17 assists in the contest while scoring 34 points in the paint.
Webster got off to a great start in this one as they jumped out to an early 16-5 lead. The Patriots settled in as the half progressed and were able to cut the lead to three with 13:29 to play in the half. The Gorloks were able to push their lead back out to six over the next few minutes but a 6-0 run from the Patriots tied the score at 31 with just under four minutes to play. The game went back-and-forth down the final stretch of the half but ultimately the Patriots would take a 41-39 lead into the locker room.
The Patriots came out of the break and extended their lead to five in the first few minutes of the half. Webster battled back and cut the lead to one, but a 5-0 run from Baptist Bible put them up 53-47 with 14 minutes to play in the game. The Gorloks picked it up as the half progressed and were able to tie the score at 57 midway through the period. The game remained close down the final stretch of the half but the Patriots held a two point lead in the final seconds. The Gorloks were able to force a late turnover at the end of the game but were unable to convert on their shot at the buzzer.
Wynne Brown Jr. led the way for the Gorloks as he finished with a team high 21 points.
Karl Moore Jr. also played well as he finished with 12 points and a game high 13 rebounds for his third double-double of the year. In addition,
Mark Moore finished with 15 points,
Jacob Witaschek finished with 12 points, and
Jason Coleman dished out a team high four assists to round out the top performers for Webster.
The Gorloks will be back in action on Wednesday, December 8
th when they travel to Rolla, Missouri, to take on the Missouri S&T Miners in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
