BELLEVILLE, Ill. - Webster University senior
Morgan Parrish (Lawrenceville, Ill./Parkland College) has been named this week's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Parrish is the first Gorlok softball player this season to honored by the league and the fifth Gorlok player to earn a Player of the Week accolade since the beginning of the 2019 season.
The 6-foot Parrish earns her first career SLIAC Pitcher of the Week honor after picking up a complete game 4-1 win this past week at WashU. Against the Bears, Parrish allowed only two hits, both of which were recorded by Nicole Hay, and just one run, which was a home run by Hay, while striking out a season high seven and walking three. The complete game was her second of the season and the win improved Parrish to 2-1 on the season.
On the season, Parrish has a 2-1 record and a team and SLIAC-leading 0.78 ERA on the season. In five appearances and 27.2 innings of work, Parrish has recorded 19 strikeouts, walked eight and allowed just five runs (three earned).
In addition to Parrish, the league named Iowa Wesleyan senior infielder Alex Eyman as the SLIAC Hitter of the Week. On the week, Eyman was responsible for five of her team's six runs in an 8-6 loss at Eureka. Against the Red Devils, Eyman was 2-for-3 at the plate with two home runs and 5 RBI.
Parrish and the rest of the Gorloks (5-3 overall) will next be in action this coming Saturday, April 3 as they host Blackburn for non-conference doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. at St. Joseph's Academy in Frontenac.
