WEBSTER GROVES - Webster University Baseball heads into the first weekend of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament ranked No. 2 and No. 4 nationally in the latest Perfect Game Division III and D3Baseball.com Top 25 polls that were recently released.Â
The Gorloks, who are the top seed in the 2021 SLIAC Tournament after capturing the regular season league title for the 14th consecutive season, jumped one spot to No. 2 in this week's Perfect Game poll and advanced one spot from No. 5 to No. 4 in this week's D3Baseball.com poll after completing a four game sweep to close the regular season at Iowa Wesleyan. With the sweep of the Tigers, Webster is now 30-6 overall on the season and completed league play with a 25-3 record. The 25 wins in SLIACÂ play are tied for the most in school history.Â
After being ranked No. 3 in last week's Perfect Game poll, the Gorloks jumped to No. 2 this week and is now behind WashU, who remains the No. 1 team in the Perfect Game Division III poll.Â
Meanwhile, in the D3Baseball.com/NCBWA poll, Webster received 527 points and one first place vote to sit nine points behind No. 3 Wisconsin-Whitewater (30-4), who jumped five spots from No. 8 to No. 3 this week and are 17 points in front of No. 5 Salisbury (21-4), who fell two spots to No. 5 this week.Â
WashU continues to headline both polls as the Bears (26-3) earned 594 points and 19 first place votes in the D3Baseball.com poll.Â
In addition to WashU and Webster, the three other spots in the Top 5 of the Perfect Game poll are filled by Salisbury at No. 3, Wisconsin-Whitewater at No. 4 and North Central (Ill.) at No. 5.Â
While in the latest D3Baseball.com poll, Washington & Jefferson (33-1) jumps two spots to No. 2 and they are followed at No. 3 by Wisconsin-Whitewater. Webster and Salisbury rounds out this week's Top 5.Â
The Gorloks are the lone school from the SLIAC ranked in either of the two national polls, but Spalding (26-13), who is the No. 2 seed in the SLIAC Tournament, received one vote in this week's D3Baseball.com and they are one of 17 teams earning votes this week.
Webster will put its No. 2 and No. 4 national ranking on the line beginning Thursday, May 13 as they open up play in the SLIAC Tournament with a 3:30 p.m. first round game against No. 8 seeded Eureka College at CarShield Field in O'Fallon, Mo.Â
