WEBSTER GROVES – Beginning today and running through Friday, June 18, Webster Athletics will unveil its Gorlok Award winners for the 2020-21 school year each day leading to announcing the annual Webster Athletics Department Award winners on Saturday, June 19.
This is the third consecutive year that Webster Athletics has awarded the 10 ESPY-styled awards that were created by the Webster Athletics Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Once again, those awards were nominated and voted on my Webster's coaches and athletic department staff members.
The first two Gorlok Award winners for 2020-21 being recognized are the Best Action Shot and Funniest Action Shot from the past school year.
The Best Action Shot winner are competitive cheerleaders junior Lexi Young (Fenton, Mo./Northwest) and senior captain Raven Ritrovato (St. Clair, Mo./St. Clair) at the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer championship match this spring against Westminster College at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo.
Meanwhile, the winner of the funniest action picture from the 2020-21 season is men's senior forward
Ben Aziz (Paris, France/Marquette) trying to not touch the soccer ball in a home match against Greenville.
Along with the cheerleaders, the other finalists for the Best Action Photo were junior men's soccer midfielder/forward
Aamahn Murvin (Sahuarita, Ariz./Walden Grove) on his shot attempt on goal against Greenville on March 10 at World Wide Technology Soccer Park and baseball second-year freshman left fielder
Landon Vahle (Lee's Summit, Mo./St. Michael Archangel) sliding home ahead of the tag in a game against Westminster (Mo.) College on March 13 at GCS Credit Union Ballpark in Sauget, Ill.
Along with Aziz, the other finalists for the funniest action photo were senior softball third baseman
Alyssa McWilliams (Windsor, Colo./CSU-Pueblo) for her facial reaction when making a throw from third base in a game at Illinois College on March 10 and senior women's basketball guard
Kiara Rhines (Glendale, Ariz./Ironwood) making a move to the basket against two Iowa Wesleyan defenders on March 9.


Here is this week's schedule for the other awards that will be announced:
Tuesday (June 15) – Best Record Setting Performance and Sixth Man of the Year
Wednesday (June 16) – Breakthrough Athlete of the Year and Best Teammate
Thursday (June 17) – Best Play of the Year and Best Win of the Year
Friday (June 18) – Golden Gorlok Award and Most Well-Rounded Team of the Year
On Saturday (June 19), the department's five major awards – Inspiration, Scholar Athlete, Chancellor's Award and the Outstanding Male and Female Athletes of the Year will be announced, along a list of the 2020-21 senior student-athletes.
