Men’s Tennis Drops Two Over the Weekend

GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Webster University men's tennis team was back on the court on Saturday when they traveled to Greenville, Illinois, to take on the Greenville (Ill.) College Panthers and the Anderson (Ind.) University Ravens in a doubleheader. The Gorloks dropped both contests as they fell to the Panthers 9-0 and to the Ravens 7-2. With the losses, the Gorloks fall to 1-2 on the year.

In their first match of the day, the Gorloks won 19 games with eight coming in doubles competition and 11 coming in singles. Carson Fisher and Matthew Birchmeier won a team high four games in doubles as they fell to Clark Kent and Luke Matsinger 8-4.

Birchmeier and Aaron Demarco did well in the singles portion of the match as they both picked up three game wins in the match.

In their second match of the day, the Gorloks picked up a win in both the doubles and singles portion of the match. Riley Muren and Carson Fisher led the way for Webster as they defeated Peter Hallam and Seth Nation by a final score of 8-7 after winning the tie breaker 8-5.

Muren also did well in singles as he defeated Colton Stevens in three sets. He lost the first set by a final score of 6-3 and then bounced back for a 6-2 win in the second set. He then won the tie breaker 10-1 to pick up the win for the Gorloks.

The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, September 18th when they host the SLIAC Individual Tournament at Webster Groves Recreational Complex. The event is set to start at 9 a.m.
