Gorloks Fall to Beavers at Home

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's basketball team was back in action tonight when they played host to the Blackburn (Ill.) College Beavers in the SLIAC Game of the Week. The Gorloks were defeated by the Beavers by a final score of 65-64 to fall to 3-10 on the season and 1-1 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. With the win, the Beavers improve to 3-11 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Webster went 26-for-65 (40.0%) from the floor and 7-for-19 (36.8%) from behind the arc. They finished with 42 rebounds in the game compared to 42 from the Beavers. Webster forced the Beavers to turn the ball over 11 times in the contest and blocked seven shots in the game. They also dished out 10 assists.

In the first half of the game, both sides came out and exchanged baskets early. With the score tied at 10, the Gorloks went on a 14-2 run and held a 24-12 lead with just over eight minutes to play in the period. The Beavers battled back and cut the score to three, but another run from Webster put them up 36-24 late in the frame. The Beavers ended the half on a 6-0 run and the Gorloks took a 36-30 lead into the locker room.

The Beavers carried over their momentum into the second half and started the period on the 6-0 run to tie the score at 36. The Beavers continued to push the tempo as the half progressed and held a six point advantage with just under nine minutes to play in the game. Webster fought back and answered with a 10-0 run as the score remained close down the final stretch of the half. The Gorloks found themselves trailing by one on their final possession and had two chances to score but were unable to find the bottom of the basket as the Beavers made a stop to solidify the win.

Karl Moore Jr. led the way for Webster as he finished with 13 points and a game high 13 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the year. He also blocked a season high seven shots in the contest. In addition to Moore Jr., Wynne Brown Jr. finished with a team high 15 points and Mark Moore added 13 points to round out the top scorers for Webster. Mark Moore and Ethan Lattimore led the way with three assists each.

The Gorloks are back in action when they play host to the Westminster (Mo.) College Blue Jays for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 3 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
