Gorloks Win 12th Straight

EUREKA, Ill. – This evening the Webster University women's basketball team was back in action when they traveled across the river to take on the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils in a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks were able to stay unbeaten on the season as they defeated the Red Devils by a final score of 81-51 to improve to 12-0 on the season and 3-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the loss, the Red Devils fall to 4-8 on the season and 0-2 in the SLIAC.

The Gorloks went 32-for-77 (41.6%) from the floor and 6-for-13 (46.2%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Red Devils 53-36 and forced them to turn the ball over 18 times. The Gorloks were able to turn those 18 turnovers into 15 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 19 assists on the night.

The Gorloks came out in the first half and jumped out to an early 7-0 lead. They continued to play well as the first quarter progressed and went on an 11-4 run to extend their lead to 19-4 late in the quarter. The Red Devils battled back down the final stretch of the frame and were able to cut the Gorloks lead to 23-12 heading into the second. Webster opened the second quarter with a 6-0 run and held a 17-point advantage with just over six minutes to play in the half. They played well in the final minutes of the quarter and took a 43-19 lead into the locker room.

Webster carried over their momentum into the second half and pushed their lead to as many as 28 late in the third quarter. They held a 71-44 lead heading into the final frame and never led the Red Devils back into the game as they cruised to their 12th straight win of the season.

Addison Beussink led the way for the Gorloks as she finished with a game high 24 points in the contest to go along with eight rebounds. In addition to Beussink, Naomi Johnson finished with 12 points, Kate Rolfes added 11 points, and Hannah Cottrell added a game high six assists. Emily Wilson also had a great game as she finished with nine points and a game high nine rebounds.

The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, January 22nd when they host the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to tip-off at 1 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
