EUREKA, Ill. – The Webster University men's basketball team was back on the court last night when they traveled to Eureka, Illinois, to take on the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Red Devils by a final score of 87-66 to fall to 4-11 on the season and 2-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the win, the Red Devils fall to 7-8 on the season and 3-1 in the SLIAC.
The Gorloks went 28-for-78 (35.9%) from the floor and 5-for-23 (21.7%) from behind the arc. They were outrebounded by the Red Devils 42-41 and turned the ball over eight time in the contest. Eureka shot the ball well as they went 32-for-65 (49.2%) from the floor and 10-for-19 (52.6%) from the three-point line. Webster also dished out 12 assists on the night.
Webster came out in the first half of the game and found themselves trailing 17-7 seven minutes into the contest. The Gorloks battled back and cut the lead to two, but another run from the Red Devils put them up 12 late in the period. Webster would cut the lead back down to single digits in the final minute but ultimately the Red Devils would take a 42-30 lead into the locker room.
Eureka came out in the second half and quickly extended their lead to 52-34 in the first few minutes of the half. Webster was able to cut the lead back down to 11 midway through the frame, but a 16-5 run from the Red Devils extended their lead to 22 with just under six minutes to play. They pushed their lead to as many as 24 late in the contest and never let the Gorloks get back into the game as they closed them out down the stretch to solidify the win.
Wynne Brown Jr. led the way offensively for the Gorloks as he finished with a team high 13 points in the game. In addition to Brown Jr.,
Javane Nugent and
Mark Moore both finished with 10 points while
Karl Moore Jr. brought down a game high 13 rebounds.
The Gorloks are back in action on Saturday, January 22
nd when they play host to the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers in a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 3 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
