ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's basketball team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Panthers by a final score of 62-59 to fall to 4-12 on the season and 2-3 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the win, the Panthers move to 7-6 on the season and 3-1 in the SLIAC.
Webster went 22-for-58 (37.9%) from the floor and 5-for-18 (27.8%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Panthers 38-34 and forced them to turn the ball over seven times in the contest. The Gorloks turned the ball over eight times in the game while dishing out 12 assists.
The Panthers came out in the first half and were knocking down their shots as they jumped out to an early 20-11 lead. They continued to push the tempo over the next few minutes of the game and were able to extend their lead to as many as 16 midway through the half. The Gorloks picked it up as the half progressed and went on a 12-0 run to cut the Panthers lead to 29-25 late in the period. Principia pushed their lead back out to nine down the final stretch and would ultimately take a 34-29 lead into the locker room.
Webster came out of halftime and quickly cut the Panthers lead back down to four. The game remained close as the half progressed but the Gorloks had a tough time taking the lead. They were able to tie the game in the final minute of the contest but a technical foul from the Gorloks gave the Panthers a chance to win it at the line. They were able to knock down their free throw to take the lead and made a stop on the Gorloks final possession to solidify the win.
Karl Moore Jr. had another monster game for Webster as he finished with 10 points and a game high 16 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the year.
Wynne Brown Jr. led all Gorlok scorers as he finished with 17 points. In addition,
Rodson Etienne finished with 12 points and
Javane Nugent added 10 rebounds to round out the top performers for Webster.
The Gorloks are back in action on Tuesday, January 25
th when they travel to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles in a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 7:30 p.m. EST.
