ELSAH, Ill. – The Webster University women's soccer team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Elsah, Illinois, to take on the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Panthers by a final score of 5-0 to improve to 11-6-1 on the season and 8-3-1 in conference play. With the loss, the Panthers fall to 4-9-2 on the season and 3-5-2 in conference play.
The Gorloks outshot the Panthers 24-1 in the match and put 14 shots on target. Webster also led in the corner count as they finished with five while the Panthers finished with one.
The Gorloks got on the board first in this one as
Mya Stegen was able to find the back of the net from nearly 30 yards out for her second tally of the season.
Jordan Bilyeu had the assist for Webster, her third of the year.
Webster picked up one more goal in the first half as
Hope Dedic scored her second of the season in the 44
th minute to give the Gorloks a 2-0 lead at the break.
The Gorloks continued to control the possession in the second half and scored two goals in the first 11 minutes of the period to take a 4-0 advantage.
Mya Stegen scored her second of the contest in the 51
st minute after finishing off a give-and-go with
Jordan Lande. Lande then scored her 12
th of the year in the 56
th minute of the game as she received a pass from
Grace Rodgers before find the back of the net. The goal marked her 61
st career tally putting her second all-time on the Gorloks scoring list.
Abbey Poe finished off the scoring for the Gorloks as she found the back of the net for the seventh time this season.
Hope Dedic made a run down the touch line and slotted it back to Poe who was able to beat the keeper to give Webster a 5-0 advantage.
Heather Jones got the start in goal for Webster as she did not record a save in her first solo shutout of the season.
The Gorloks will return to the pitch on Thursday, October 27
th when they host the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles for their final home game of the regular season. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m. at WWT Soccer Park.
