ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's basketball team was back in action this evening when they played host to the University of Dallas (Texas) Crusaders for their first game of the 2022 Webster University Tip-Off Classic. The Gorloks defeated the Crusaders by a final score of 82-55 to improve to 2-0 on the season and extend their regular season unbeaten streak to 34 straight games.
The Gorloks went 27-for-62 (43.5%) from the floor and 3-for-11 (27.3%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Crusaders by a final count of 44-42 and pulled down 18 offensive boards compared to 19 from Dallas. The Gorloks forced the Crusaders to turn the ball over 34 times in the game while turning those turnovers into 38 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 13 assists in the contest.
Webster came out in the first quarter and opened the game on a 7-0 run before the Crusaders were forced to call a timeout. Dallas was able to cut the lead to two late in the quarter, but a basket at the end of the period from
Emily Wilson gave Webster a 16-12 lead heading into the second. The Gorloks played well in the second and grew their lead to as many as 17 late in the frame. Dallas ended the half on a 4-0 run and Webster took a 36-23 lead into the locker room.
The Crusaders came out in the third quarter and were able to cut Webster's lead down to five in the first three minutes of the period. The Gorloks responded with 20-10 run to end the quarter and took a 68-43 lead into the fourth. Webster continued to play well in the fourth quarter and never let Dallas back in the game as they closed them out down the stretch to solidify their spot in the Webster Tip-Off Classic Championship Game.
Emily Wilson led the way for Webster as she recorded her first career double-double with a career high 18 points and a career high 11 rebounds.
Nysa Gilchrist also had a great game as she finished with a career high 14 points. In addition,
Julie Baudendistel finished with 11 points while
Kate Rolfes and
Bethany Lancaster each added 10.
The women's basketball team will return to the court tomorrow, November 12
th when they host the Aurora (Ill.) University Spartans for the 2022 Webster University Tip-Off Classic Championship Game. The game is set to start at 3 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
