ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's basketball team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Aurora (Ill.) University Spartans for the 2022 Webster University Tip-Off Classic Championship Game. The Gorloks defeated the Spartans by a final score of 70-56 to improve to 3-0 on the season and extend their regular season unbeaten streak to 35 straight games.
The Gorloks went 27-for-60 (45.0%) from the floor and 6-for-20 (30.0%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Spartans by a final count of 49-37 and pulled down 11 offensive boards compared to 14 from Dallas. The Gorloks forced the Crusaders to turn the ball over 19 times in the game while turning those turnovers into 18 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 17 assists in the contest.
Webster got off to a great start in this one as they jumped out to an early 10-0 lead. The Spartans battled back and cut the lead to six, but another run from Webster put them up 23-13 heading into the second. The Spartans once again cut the Gorloks lead to six to start the second, but a 12-7 run from Webster to end the half put them up 39-28 at the break.
The Gorloks carried over their momentum into the third and quickly extended their lead to 16 in the first two minutes of the half. The Spartans settled in as the period progressed and answered with a 15-4 run in the final eight minutes of the quarter to cut Websters lead to 48-43 heading into the final frame.
The Gorloks picked it up to start the fourth and were able to push their lead back to double digits before cruising to their third straight win on the season.
Bethany Lancaster led the way for Webster as she finished with 10 points and a game high 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
Kate Rolfes also had a nice game as she finished with a game high 16 points. In addition,
Julie Baudendistel posted 10 points and seven rebounds, Jenna Stannard finished with 11 points, and
Emily Wilson added nine points for the Gorloks.
Following the conclusion of the game, the 2022 Webster Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament Team was announced. The team included Jas Patrick (MUW), Adrian Alverez (Dallas), Macy Kocen (Aurora), Elliot Dojutrek (Aurora), and
Kate Rolfes (Webster).
Emily Wilson of Webster was named the tournaments MVP.
The women's basketball team will return to the court on Saturday, November 19
th when they travel to Columbus, Mississippi, to take on the Mississippi University for Women Owls in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to tip-off at 1 p.m.
