ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's basketball team wrapped up play in the 2022 Sikma Hall of Fame Invitational when they took on the Yeshiva (N.Y.) University Maccabees in the consolation game this afternoon. The Gorloks were defeated by a final score of 75-58 to fall to 0-3 on the season.
The Gorloks went 25-for-68 (36.8%) from the floor and 3-for-15 (20.0%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Maccabees by a final count of 48-36 and pulled down 17 offensive boards compared to seven from Yeshiva. The Gorloks forced the Maccabees to turn the ball over 10 times in the game while turning those turnovers into 13 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out eight assists in the contest.
Webster got off to a great start in this one as they went on a 17-4 run to start the game. The Maccabees battled back and answered with a 15-2 run of their own to cut the lead to two, but another quick run from the Gorloks put them up 24-19 late in the half. Yeshiva ended the period on a 9-2 run and took a 28-26 lead into the locker room.
In the second half of the game, both sides came out of the locker room and exchanged points early. With the Maccabees leading 37-36, Yeshiva went on a 22-10 run to take a 59-46 advantage with seven minutes to play. The Gorloks cut the lead down to nine, but that was as close as they would get as the Maccabees closed them out down the stretch to solidify the win.
Wynne Brown Jr. led the way for Webster as he finished with a game high 26 points to go along with six rebounds.
Karl Moore Jr. also had a great game as he finished with 10 points and a game high 15 rebounds for his third double-double of the year. In addition,
Alpha Diallo recorded seven points while
Jemard Sykes II and
Jason Coleman each added four.
Following the conclusion of the game,
Wynne Brown Jr. was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The men's basketball team is back in action on Tuesday, November 15
th when they host the Washington (Mo.) University Bears for a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
