Luster Scores 18 in Loss

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's basketball team was back on the court tonight when they traveled to Monmouth, Illinois, to take on the Monmouth (Ill.) College Fighting Scots for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks fell to the Fighting Scots by a final score of 76-69 to drop to 0-7 on the season. With the win, Monmouth improves to 3-2 on the season.

The Gorloks went 28-for-62 (45.2%) from the floor and 5-for-17 (29.4%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Fighting Scots by a final count of 39-35 and pulled down 11 offensive boards compared to eight from Monmouth. The Gorloks forced the Fighting Scots to turn the ball over eight times in the game while also dishing out 14 assists.

In the first half of the game, both sides came out and exchanged points early in the contest. With the score tied at 19, Webster went on a 4-0 run to give themselves the biggest lead between either team with just over four minutes to play in the half. They continued to play well down the final stretch and were able to take a 35-32 lead into the locker room.

The Fighting Scots came out of the locker room and went on a 23-8 run in the first eight minutes of the half to take a 55-43 lead in the game. They continued to push the tempo as the half progressed and pushed their lead to as many as 20 with seven minutes remaining. Webster battled back and cut the lead to seven with just over a minute to play, but that was as close as they would get as the Fighting Scots forced a couple late turnovers to solidify the game.

Josh Luster led the way for Webster as he finished with a season, and team, high 18 points. Jason Coleman and Markus Becton also finished in double figures as Coleman finished with 13 points and Becton added 11. Karl Moore Jr. led the team in rebounding as he pulled down eight boards in the contest.

The men's basketball team is back in action on Saturday, November 26th when they travel to Columbia, Mississippi, to take on the Mississippi University for Women Owls in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to tip-off at 3 p.m.
