Columbus, Miss. – The Webster University men's basketball team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Columbus, Mississippi, to take on Mississippi University for Women Owls for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks fell to the Owls by a final score of 60-45 to fall to 0-8 on the season. With the win, the Owls improve to 4-3 on the year.
The Gorloks went 21-for-55 (38.2%) from the floor and 1-for-16 (6.3%) from behind the arc. They were outrebounded by a final count of 40-33 and brought down 15 offensive boards compared to 17 from the Owls. Webster forced the Owls to turn the ball over 20 times in the game and turned those turnovers into 16 points on the other end of the floor. The Gorloks also dished out seven assists in the contest.
In the first half of the game, both sides came out and exchanged points early in the contest. With Webster trialing 17-16, the Owls went on a 12-4 run to take a 29-20 lead late in the first half. They grew their lead to as many as 12, but Webster was able to end the half on a 6-0 run to cut the Owls lead to 36-30 at the break.
Webster carried over their momentum into he second half and cut the Owls lead to four with just under 16 minutes to play in the game. The Owls responded with an 11-0 run to push their lead to 15, but another run from the Gorloks cut the lead back down to single digits with just over five minutes remaining. Webster was unable to find the bottom of the basket down the final stretch and the Owls closed them out to solidify the win.
Markus Becton led the way for Webster as he finished with a game high 14 points.
Jason Coleman also finished in double figures as he posted 13 points in the contest.
Karl Moore Jr. led the team in rebounding as he finished with seven.
The Gorloks return to the court on Sunday, December 4
th when they travel to Jackson, Mississippi, to take on Millsaps (Miss.) College for a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 2 p.m.
