ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's basketball was back in action this evening when they played host to the Rhodes (Tenn.) College Lynx for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks defeated by the Lynx by a final score of 80-54 to improve to 4-1 on the season. With the loss, the Lynx fall to 3-3 on the year.
The Gorloks went 31-for-76 (40.8%) from the floor and 2-for-9 (22.2%) from behind the arc. They were outrebounded by the Lynx by a final count of 40-39 and pulled down 15 offensive boards compared to nine from Rhodes College. The Gorloks forced the Lynx to turn the ball over a season high 41 times while turning those turnovers into 40 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 19 assists in the contest.
Webster came out in the first quarter and found themselves tailing 15-10 with just over three minutes to play in the period. They ended the quarter on an 8-5 run but the Lynx would take a 20-18 lead into the second. The Gorloks quickly tied the score at 20 early in the second and then went on an 11-5 run to take a 31-25 lead midway through the period. They pushed their lead to as many as 10 in the frame and would take a 42-34 lead into the locker room.
Webster carried over their momentum into the third quarter and were able to grow their lead to 14 in the first five minutes of the half. The Lynx would cut the lead to 10, but a 9-4 run to end the period put the Gorloks up 59-44 heading into the fourth. Webster pushed their lead to 22 midway through the fourth and cruised to their fourth win of the season.
Bethany Lancaster led the way for Webster as she finished with a season high 18 points and a game high 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.
Julie Baudendistel also had a great game as she finished with 15 points and four assists.
Emily Wilson rounded out the top performers for Webster as she finished with 14 points and four assists.
The women's basketball team will return to the court on Sunday, December 4
th when they host Anderson (Ind.) University for a nonconference matchup. The game will tip-off at 1 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
