Gorloks Stay Unbeaten at Home

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's basketball was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Anderson (Ind.) University Ravens for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Ravens by a final score of 96-66 to improve to 5-1 on the season. With the loss, the Ravens fall to 3-5 on the year.

The Gorloks went 40-for-73 (54.8%) from the floor and 3-for-14 (21.4%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Ravens by a final count of 49-34 and pulled down 16 offensive boards compared to 15 from Anderson. The Gorloks forced the Ravens to turn the ball over 29 times while turning those turnovers into 25 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 22 assists in the contest.

Webster came out in the first quarter of the game and jumped out to an early 19-5 lead. They continued to push the tempo as the quarter progressed and grew their lead to as many as 20 in the quarter before taking a 32-14 lead into the second. The Ravens cut the lead to 15 to start the second, but another run from Webster put them up 43-20 midway through the frame. The Gorloks turned up the pressure down the final stretch of the half and took a 57-32 lead into the locker room.

The Gorloks carried over their momentum into the third and extended their lead to 33 midway through the period. The Ravens battled back as the quarter progressed and were able to cut Webster's lead to 77-51 heading into the final frame. The Gorloks grew their lead to as many as 31 in the fourth and held off the Ravens down the stretch to solidify their fifth win of the season.

Emily Wilson led the Gorloks in scoring this afternoon as she finished with a team high 14 points. Trinniti Matthews, Kate Rolfes, and Jordyn Grimes also finished in double-figures as Matthews finished with a career high 12 points, Rolfes added 11 points, and Grimes finished with 10. Bethany Lancaster led the Gorloks on the boards as she pulled down a game high 13 rebounds. Lastly, Julie Baudendistel dished out a team high four assists in the contest.

The women's basketball team will return to the court on Friday, December 9th when they play host to the Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University Hornets for a nonconference matchup. The game will start at 6 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
