ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University men's basketball team was back on their home floor tonight when thy played host to the Williams Baptist (Ark.) University Eagles for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks defeated by the Eagles by a final score of 82-73 to improve to 2-8 on the season. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 5-4 on the year.
The Gorloks went 30-for-65 (46.2%) from the floor and 4-for-17 (23.5%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Eagles by a final count of 47-32 and pulled down 19 offensive boards. The Gorloks forced the Eagles to turn the ball over 10 times while turning those turnovers into nine points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 16 assists in the contest.
Webster came out in the first half of the game and found themselves trailing 15-8 in the first five minutes of the contest. The Gorloks battled back and were able to cut the led to three, but a 7-0 run from the Eagles put them up 30-20 with just under eight minutes to play in the period. Webster cut the lead back down to single digits down the final stretch of the half and then ended the period on a 4-0 run to cut the Eagles lead to 44-40 at the break.
The Gorloks picked it up to start the second half and immediately tied the score at 44 in the first two minutes of the period. The Eagles were able to score the next basket of the game, but Webster would go on a 15-2 run over the next few minutes of the half to take a 59-48 lead in the contest. The Eagles cut the lead down to as many as six in the period, but Webster was able to close them out down the stretch to solidify their second straight win.
Jason Coleman led the way for Webster as he finished with a career, and game, high 26 points.
Karl Moore Jr. also had a fantastic game as he finished with 15 points and a game high 14 rebounds while blocking five shots. In addition,
Jemard Sykes II finished with 13 points, six rebounds, and a game high six assists while
Wynne Brown Jr. added nine points.
The Gorloks will hit the road for their next two games as they will travel to Columbia, Missouri, on Saturday, December 10
th for an exhibition game against Columbia (Mo.) College and then to Springfield, Illinois, for an exhibition game against the University of Illinois-Springfield on Friday, December 30
th. The Gorloks game in Columbia will start at 1 p.m. and their game in Springfield will start at 6 p.m.
