ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's basketball was back on the floor this afternoon when they traveled to Columbia, Missouri, to take on the Columbia (Mo.) College Cougars for an exhibition game. The Gorloks were defeated by the Cougars by a final score of 82-65. Columbia College moves to 10-4 on the season with the win.

Webster went 25-for-58 (43.1%) from the floor and 7-for-15 (46.7%) from behind the arc. The Gorloks were outrebounded by the Cougars by a final count of 45-25 and pulled down six boards on the offensive end. The Gorloks forced the Cougars to turn the ball over eight times while turning those turnovers into nine points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 14 assists in the contest.

In the first half of the game, both sides came out and exchanged points early. With Webster leading 11-10, the Cougars would go on a 21-2 run over the next few minutes to give themselves a 31-13 lead midway through the half. The Gorloks would cut the lead down to 16 with seven minutes to play in the half, but the Cougars would push their lead back out to 51-27 at the break.

Webster came out in the second half and cut the Cougars lead to 17 in the first five minutes of the period. The Cougars pushed their lead back out to 26 over the next few minutes, but another run form the Gorloks put them down 78-61 with just over four minutes to play in the game. The Gorloks tried their best to get back into the contest but were unable to cut into the lead as the Cougars closed them out to solidify the win.

Markus Becton and Jemard Sykes II led the way for Webster as they both finished with 12 points in the contest. Sykes also led the team in rebounding as he finished with eight in the game. In addition, Jason Coleman added 10 points while Wynne Brown Jr. and Nate Jones each finished with eight.

Webster will take a break for the holidays and will be back in action on Friday, December 30^th when they travel to Springfield, Illinois, to take on the University of Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars for an exhibition game. The game is set to start at 6 p.m.
