ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This evening the Webster University women's basketball team was back in action when they played host to the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks were able to defeat the Panthers by a final score of 87-55 to improve to 16-0 on the season and 7-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the loss, the Panthers fall to 9-9 on the season and 3-5 in the SLIAC.
The Gorloks went 33-for-70 (47.1%) from the floor and 13-for-27 (48.1%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Panthers 44-35 and forced them to turn the ball over 18 times in the game. They turned those 18 turnovers into 22 points on the offensive end of the floor. The Gorloks also dished out 22 assists in the contest.
The Gorloks came out in the first quarter and found themselves trailing 7-4 in the first two minutes of the game. They settled in as the quarter progressed and tied the score at nine before going on a 10-0 run to take a 19-9 advantage midway through the frame. They continued to push the tempo down the final stretch of the period and were able to take a 23-15 lead into the second. The Gorloks pushed their lead out to 31-17 to start the second and held a 15-point advantage at the halftime break.
Webster came out in the third quarter and grew their lead to 20 with just over three minutes to play in the frame. They continued to push the tempo over the next few minutes and took a 67-40 lead into the fourth. They pushed their lead out to as many as 36 in the game and cruised to their 16
th straight win of the season.
Naomi Johnson led the way for the Gorloks as she finished with a game high 23 points after knocking down six three pointers in the contest. In addition to Johnson,
Julie Baudendistel and
Addison Beussink both finished with 11 points and seven rebounds while
Hannah Cottrell dished out a team high five assists and
Emily Wilson pulled down a game high eight rebounds.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, February 5
th when they travel to Fulton, Missouri, to take on the Westminster (Mo.) College Bluejays for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to tip-off at 1 p.m.
