Gorloks Tie SLIAC Consecutive Win Record

ELSAH, Ill. – The Webster University women's basketball team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Elsah, Illinois, to take on the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Panthers by a final score of 95-42 to improve to 20-0 on the season and 11-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Conference. With the loss, the Panthers fall to 1-17 on the season and 0-12 in SLIAC play.

This win marks the third time under Head Coach Jordan Olufson, and fifth time in program history, that the women's basketball team has won 20 games in a season. Their 20 straight wins also ties a SLIAC women's basketball record that was set by Maryville (Mo.) University in the 2007-08 season.

The Gorloks went an impressive 33-for-62 (53.2%) from the floor and 12-for-21 (57.1%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Panthers 41-36 and had 16 offensive boards. They forced the Panthers to turn the ball over 28 times in the contest and turned those 28 turnovers into 38 points on the offensive end.

The Gorloks came out in the first quarter of the game and were firing on all cylinders as they jumped out to an early 18-0 lead. They extended their lead to 26 late in the period and took a 32-6 lead into the second. The Panthers opened the second with a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 22, but a 10-3 run from Webster extended their lead to 44-15 midway through the frame. They extended their lead to 33 late in the half and took a 56-25 lead into the halftime break.

Webster continued to play well to start the third quarter and held a 62-31 lead midway through the frame. They pushed their lead out to 41 late in the period and took a 76-35 lead into the final quarter. The grew their lead to as many as 54 in the game and cruised to their 20th straight win of the season.

Julie Baudendistel and Kate Rolfes led the way for the Gorloks offensively as both finished with 18 points in the contest. Baudendistel also pulled down a game high eight rebounds. In addition, Bethany Lancaster finished with 10 points while Jordyn Grimes, Naomi Johnson, and Emily Kuntze all finished with nine points.

The Gorloks will have a chance to break the SLIAC record on Tuesday, February 15th when they travel to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to tip-off at 5:30 p.m. EST.
