Gorloks Break SLIAC Consecutive Wins Record

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – This evening the Webster University women's basketball team was back in action when they traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks, who are receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, improved to 21-0 on the season and 12-0 in the SLIAC with a 91-64 win. With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 8-14 on the year and 4-7 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

This was a milestone win for the Gorloks as their 21st straight win is a new SLIAC record. The previous record of 20 was set by Maryville (Mo.) University in the 2007-08 season.

Webster went 37-for-84 (44.0%) from the floor and 3-for-14 (21.4%) from behind the arc. They finished with 47 rebounds in the game including 18 on the offensive end. They forced Spalding to turn the ball over 27 times in the contest while turning those turnovers into 23 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 16 assists in the contest.

The Gorloks came out in the first quarter of the game and jumped out to a 13-6 lead in the first three minutes. They continued to push the tempo as the quarter progressed and extended their lead to 31-12 heading into the second. Webster carried their momentum into the second and pushed their lead to 31 with five minutes to play in the half. The Golden Eagles cut the lead down to 28 late in the frame, but an 8-3 run from the Gorloks to end the half put them up 59-26 at the break.

The Golden Eagles picked it up to start the second half and cut the Gorloks lead down to 27 with four minutes to play in the third quarter. Webster answered with a 7-2 run to extend their lead to 74-42 before taking a 76-46 lead into the fourth. The Gorloks pushed their lead out to as many as 38 in the final frame and cruised to their 21st straight win.

Addison Beussink led the way for the Gorloks as she finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the year. In addition to Beussink, Kate Rolfes finished with 13 points while Naomi Johnson and Julie Baudendistel both added 11 points.  

The Gorloks will see the Golden Eagles again this Thursday, February 17th when they host them in Grant Gymnasium for their final regular season home game. The game is set to start at 5:30 p.m.
