MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The 14th ranked Webster University baseball team was back on the diamond this morning when they traveled to Memphis, Tennessee, to take on the Augustana (Ill.) College Vikings for their second game of the 2022 Rhodes Classic. Webster was defeated by the Vikings by a final score of 11-9 to fall to 1-1 on the season. With the win, the Vikings improve to 2-0 on the year.

The Gorloks got on the board first in this one as Adam Lovell hit a single in the bottom of third scoring Levi Hall to give Webster a 1-0 lead. The Vikings bounced back over the next few innings and scored eight runs in the top of the sixth to take an 8-1 lead in the game. Despite being down, Websters bats went to work in the bottom of the sixth as they scored six runs, including a two-run double from Parker Wielt, to cut the Vikings lead to 8-7. Augustana responded by scoring a run in the top of the seventh and a run in the top of the eighth, but a two-run single from A.J. Smith in the bottom of the eighth cut the lead to 10-9 heading into the final inning. Augustana picked up a run in the top of the ninth and closed out the Gorloks in the bottom half of the inning to solidify the win.
