Gorloks Win Third Straight to Close Regular Season

CARLINVILLE, Ill. – This afternoon the Webster men's basketball team was back on the court when they traveled to Carlinville, Illinois, to take on the Blackburn (Ill.) College Beavers for their final game of the 2021-22 regular season. The Gorloks were able to win their third straight game as they defeated the Beavers by a final score of 68-59 to improve to 8-17 on the year and 6-8 in SLIAC play. With the loss, the Beavers fall to 8-17 on the season and 7-7 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Gorloks went 25-for-72 (34.7%) from the floor and 5-for-20 (25.0%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Beavers 57-50 and pulled down 18 offensive boards. The Gorloks forced nine turnovers in the game and dished out 15 assists.

Webster came out in the first half of the game and jumped out to a quick 12-3 lead. The Beavers cut the lead down to four over the next few minutes, but a 22-10 run from the Gorloks put them up 34-18 with seven minutes to play in the period. Blackburn cut the lead back down to 11 with five minutes to play, but another run from Webster put the Gorloks up 41-24 in the final minutes. Blackburn scored the final four points of the half and Webster took a 41-28 lead into the locker room.

The Beavers came out in the second half and were able to cut the Gorloks lead down to single digits midway through the period. Webster extended their lead back out to 17 over the next few minutes and held a 62-45 lead with three minutes to play. The Beavers ended the game on a 14-6 run but the damage had been done as the Gorloks were able to hold them off to solidify their third straight win.

Karl Moore Jr. led the way for the Gorloks as he finished with 10 points and a season high 18 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the year. Bryce Woolridge also had a nice game as he finished with a team high 13 points. In addition, Stephen Hawkins added 11 points, Rodson Etienne finished with nine points, and Javane Nugent added 10 rebounds to round out the top performers for Webster.

The Gorloks will be back in action on Tuesday, February 22nd when they compete in the quarterfinals of the 2022 SLIAC Men's Basketball Tournament. They will find out who and where they will play after all conference games are completed.
