FULTON, Mo. – This afternoon the Webster University men's basketball team was back in action when they traveled to Fulton, Missouri, to take on the Westminster (Mo.) College Blue Jays in a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Blue Jays by a final score of 75-55 to fall to 5-15 on the season and 3-6 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the win, Westminster improved to 7-14 on the year and 3-7 in SLIAC play.
Webster had a tough time scoring the ball today as they went 20-for-48 (41.7%) from the floor and 6-for-14 (42.9%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Blue Jays 33-28 and forced them to turn the ball over nine times. Webster turned the ball over 24 times in the contest while dishing out just four assists.
The Gorloks came out in the first half and found themselves trailing 6-0 in the first few minutes of the game. They settled in as the half progressed but the Blue Jays held a 19-11 lead midway through the period. They were able to push their lead out to as many as 18 in the frame and held a 41-25 lead at the break.
The Blue Jays came out in the second half and quickly extended their lead out to 30. The Gorloks tried their best to get back into the game but the Blue Jays played well as the half progressed and held a 23-point lead late. Webster cut the lead down to as many 18 but that was as close as they would get as the Blue Jays closed them out down the stretch to solidify the win.
Mark Moore led the way for the Gorloks as he finished with a team high 12 points in the game. In addition,
Karl Moore Jr. added eight points and
Javane Nugent pulled down a team high six rebounds.
The Gorloks are back in action on Monday, February 7
th when they travel across town to take on the Fontbonne (Mo.) University Griffins for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
