Etienne Moves to Third All-Time on Scoring List

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This evening the Webster University men's basketball team was back in action when they traveled down Big Bend to Fontbonne (Mo.) University to take on the Griffins for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks fell to the Griffins by a final score of 75-69 to drop to 5-16 on the season and 3-7 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Conference. Win the win, the Griffins improve to 12-5 on the year and 8-1 in conference play.

Webster went 25-for-58 (43.1%) from the floor and 10-for-30 (33.3%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Griffins 34-30 and pulled down nine offensive boards. They forced Fontbonne to turn the ball over 12 times in the game and turned those 12 turnovers into 10 points on the offensive end. The Gorloks also dished out 10 assists.

Webster came out in the first half of the game and exchanged points with the Griffins to start. With the score tied at seven, the Gorloks went on a 15-4 run to take a 22-11 lead midway through the half. Webster continued to push the tempo as the half progressed and held a 35-25 advantage with six minutes to play in the period. The Griffins battled back and cut the lead down to two in the final minutes, but ultimately Webster would take a 40-37 lead into the locker room.

The Gorloks came out of the locker room and quickly extended their lead to five. The Griffins answered by scoring the next six points in the game to take a 45-44 lead with just over 16 minutes to play. The game remained close for most of the half and the score was tied at 62 with just over seven minutes to play. The Gorloks had a tough time scoring the ball down the final stretch as the Griffins ended the game on a 13-7 run to solidify the win.

Wynne Brown Jr. led the way for the Gorloks as he finished with a game high 24 points to go along with seven rebounds. Karl Moore Jr. led the team in rebounding as he finished with a game high nine rebounds. In addition, Rodson Etienne finished the game with three points which puts him at 1,285 for his career. This moves him to third all-time on the Webster men's basketball scoring list.

The Gorloks are back in action on Wednesday, February 9th when they host the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 7:30 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
