Gorloks Win 19th Straight Game

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's basketball team was back in action this evening when they played host to the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Red Devils by a final score of 82-67 to improve to 19-0 on the season and 10-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the loss, the Red Devils fall to 8-11 on the year and 4-5 in SLIAC play.

The Gorloks went 32-for-71 (45.1%) from the floor and 6-for-12 (50.0%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Red Devils 45-42 and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. They forced the Red Devils to turn the ball over 22 times in the game and turned those turnovers into 26 points on the offensive end of the floor. Webster also dished out 19 assists in the contest.

Webster came out in the first quarter of the game and jumped out to an early 8-2 lead. They played well as the quarter progressed and grew their lead to as many as nine before taking a 25-18 lead into the second. They carried over that momentum into the second quarter and were able to grow their lead to 35-20 with just over five minutes to play in the half. The Red Devils cut the lead to 14 late in the period, but the Gorloks knocked down a three in the final seconds of the quarter to take a 42-25 lead into the locker room.

The Red Devils came out of the break and quickly cut the Gorloks lead down to 13. Webster bounced back and extended their lead to 19, but another run from Eureka cut the Webster lead down to 10 late in the frame. The Gorloks extended their lead back out to 13 and took a 57-46 lead into the final quarter.

The Red Devils carried over their momentum into the fourth and were able to cut the lead down to single digits in the first few minutes of the period. The Gorloks pushed their lead back out to 16, but the Red Devils hit a couple threes in a row to cut the lead back down to eight. Webster kept their composure down the final stretch and extended their lead back to 17 to solidify the win.

Addison Beussink led the way for the Gorloks as she finished with a team high 20 points and a team high 13 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season. In addition to Beussink, Emily Wilson finished with 13 points and nine rebounds, Lauryn Freeman added 10 points, and Hannah Cottrell added a team high five assists to round out the top performers for Webster.

The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, February 12th when they travel to Elsah, Illinois, to take on the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to tip-off at 1 p.m.
