HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Webster University men's tennis team defeated Western Connecticut State University by a final score of 8-1 yesterday to kick off their spring break trip. With the win, the Gorloks improve to 3-4 on the season.
Webster swept the doubles portion of the match against WestConn.
Riley Muren and
Matthew Birchmeier defeated Jay Kilcourse and Kevin Tenesaca by a final score of 8-1 in #1 doubles.
Carson Fisher and
Tanner Haugen defeated Mitchell Kindred and Sebastian Frisch by a final score of 8-5 in #2 doubles.
Andrew McDonald and
Aaron Demarco defeated Nicholas Peschier and Caleb Harris by a final score of 8-3 in #3 doubles to complete the doubles sweep.
The Gorloks won five of their six singles matches as they won all but #2 singles.
Riley Muren defeated Kevin Tenesaca in #1 singles (6-4, 6-0),
Matthew Birchmeier defeated Jay Kilcourse in #3 singles (7-5, 6-1),
Tanner Haugen defeated Mitchell Kindred in #4 singles (6-5, 6-4),
Chase Boushard defeated Jerry Narcisse in #5 singles (6-1, 6-2), and
Andrew McDonald defeated Nicholas Peschier in #6 singles (6-1, 7-5).
Carson Fisher nearly completed the sweep but after winning the first game in #2 singles by a final score of 6-3, he fall in the second game by a final score of 6-2 and in the tiebreaker by a final score of 10-8.
Webster is back in action on Tuesday, March 15
th when they take on Shepard (W.V.) University at Evian Tennis Center in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The match is set to start at 12:30 p.m. EST.
