ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's tennis team was back on the court yesterday when they played host to the Baker (Kan.) University Wildcats for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Wildcats by a final score of 7-2 to improve to 5-6 on the season.
The Gorloks swept the doubles portion of the match.
Riley Muren and
Matthew Birchmeier defeated Alejandro Hernandez and Davis Steadman in #1 doubles by a final score of 9-8 after winning the tiebreaker 7-4.
Tanner Haugen and
Carson Fisher won #2 doubles over Kyler Kosanke and Auh Nguyen by a final score of 8-3. Lastly,
Andrew McDonald and
Chase Boushard completed the sweep in #3 doubles due to forfeit.
Webster wrapped up the match by going 4-2 in singles. After falling in #1 and #2 singles,
Matthew Birchmeier won #3 singles over Kyler Kosanke by final scores of 7-5 and 6-2 while
Aaron Demarco won #4 singles over Auh Nguyen by final scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
Chase Boushard and
Andrew McDonald finished out the match for the Gorloks by picking up wins in #5 singles and #6 singles due to forfeit.
The Gorloks return to the court this afternoon when they travel to Springfield, Missouri, to take on Evangel (Mo.) University. The match is set to start at 1 p.m.
