FULTON, Mo. – The Webster University men's tennis team was back in action yesterday when they traveled to Fulton, Missouri, to take on the Westmisnter (Mo.) College Blue Jays for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks swept the Blue Jays by a final score of 9-0 to improve to 9-8 on the season and 1-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the loss, Westminster falls to 0-3 on the year.
The Gorloks started off the day with a sweep in the doubles portion of the match.
Riley Muren and
Matthew Birchmeier won #1 doubles over Cooper Pennington and Aiden Peterson by a final score of 8-0.
Tanner Haugen and
Carson Fisher won #2 doubles and
Chase Boushard and
Andrew McDonald won #3 doubles due to forfeit.
In singles,
Riley Muren won #1 singles over Cooper Pennington by final scores of 6-1 and 6-1.
Carson Fisher won #2 singles over Aiden Petterson by final scores of 4-6, 7-5, and 10-5. In addition,
Matthew Birchmeier won #3 singles,
Tanner Haugen won #4 singles,
Aaron Demarco won #5 singles, and
Chase Boushard won #6 singles by forfeit.
The Gorloks return to the court on Tuesday, May 3
rd when they host the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for Senior Day. Prior to the start of the match, the team will honor the seniors for their hard work and dedication to the program. The match is set to start at 7 p.m. at Webster Groves Recreational Complex.
