FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Webster University men's tennis team was back in action today when they traveled to Franklin, Indiana, to take on Trine (Ind.) University and Franklin (Ind.) College for a doubleheader. The Gorloks split the matches as they fell to Trine by a final score of 7-2 and then beat Franklin by a final score of 6-0. Webster improves to 2-2 on the year.
In their first match of the day against Trine, Webster had a tough time as they were swept in doubles and went 2-4 in singles.
Matthew Birchmeier and
Alex Pinkston nearly took #1 doubles but fell to Cole Goodman and Drew Dixon in a tiebreaker by a final score of 9-7.
After falling in #1 singles and #2 singles,
Nicholas Granada was able to get the Gorloks on the board in #3 singles. He fell in the first set of the match but came back to win by scores of 6-4 and 10-8 to take #3 singles.
Matthew Birchmeier picked up the second point for Webster as he defeated Caleb Morris in #5 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-4.
The Gorloks had a great showing against Franklin as they started off the match with a doubles sweep.
Alex Pinkston and
Matthew Birchmeier defeated Dustin Garrison and Layton Stieneker by a final score of 8-0 in #1 doubles.
Cody Neal and
Nicholas Granada won #2 doubles over Lucas Densford and Erza Schwier by a final score of 8-5.
Britton Struewing and
Carson Fisher defeated Nathan Jarboe and Shay Kyser in #3 doubles by a final score of 8-2.
Webster carried over their momentum into the singles portion of the match and were able to win all three matches that finished before a stoppage due to weather.
Nicholas Granada won #3 singles as he defeated Owen Pickerill by final scores of 3-6, 6-0, and 10-8.
Carson Fisher won #4 singles as he defeated Layton Stieneker by final scores of 6-4 and 6-2. Lastly,
Cody Neal defeated Lucas Densford in #6 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-2.

The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, September 17
th when they travel to Greenville, Illinois, to take on the Loras (Iowa) College Duhawks at 1 p.m. and the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers at 5 p.m. The matches will take place at Greenville University.
