Gorloks Drop to 2-4 on the Season

GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Webster University men's tennis team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Greenville, Illinois, to play a doubleheader. The Gorloks lost both matches of the doubleheader as they fell to Loras (Iowa) College by a final score of 5-4 and to Greenville (Ill.) University by a final score of 6-3. With the losses, the Gorloks fall to 2-4 on the year.

In their first match of the day, the Gorloks got the match started by going 1-2 in doubles. Britton Struewing and Carson Fisher had the lone win for Webster as they defeated Konnor Barth and Gage Becker in #2 doubles by a final score of 8-1.

Struewing and Fisher also won their singles matches as Struewing defeated Thomas Kampmier in #2 singles by final scores of 7-5, 6-7 (6), and 10-6 while Fisher won #3 singles over Gage Becker by final scores of 0-6, 6-1, and 10-8. Nicholas Granada picked up the final point for Webster as he won #4 singles over Sean Gelski by final scores of 6-3 and 7-6 (3).

Webster got off to a great start in their second match of the day as they went 2-1 in doubles. Alex Pinkston and Matthew Birchmeier took #1 doubles over Andres Sanchez and Rafael Rodriguez by a final score of 8-7 (2). Nick Granada and Jack Forlenza took #3 doubles of Thibaut Tignee and Dylan Collins by a final score of 8-6.

Matthew Birchmeier won the lone match for the Gorloks in singles as he defeated Thibaut TIgnee in #5 singles by final scores of 6-4 and 6-4.

The men's tennis team will wrap up their season at the ITA Regional Championships from Friday, September 23rd to Sunday, September 25th. The tournament will take place at Washington (Mo.) University in St. Louis, Missouri.
