LISLE, Ill. – The Webster University women's soccer team was back in action this morning when they traveled to Lisle, Illinois, to take on Benedictine (Ill.) University in a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks, who came into this game on a two game losing streak, were able to get back to their winning ways as they defeated the Eagle by a final score of 3-1 to improve to 3-2 on the season. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 0-4 on the year.
The Gorloks were outshot 16-13 in the contest but put nine of their shots on target compared to seven from the Eagles. Webster led in the corner count as they finished with six in the contest while the Eagles posted five.
It did not take long for the Gorloks to get on the board in this one as
Grace Rodgers finished off her first of the season in the 12
th minute of the game to give Webster a 1-0 lead.
Angie Calabrese added to the Gorloks lead just five minutes later as she tallied her first of the season in the 17
th minute to give Webster a 2-0 advantage.
The Eagles cut the lead to 2-1 with nine minutes to play in the first half, but a third goal from Webster in the 65
th minute of the game solidified the win for Webster.
Mackenzie O'Neal had the goal for the Gorloks, her first of the year.
Taryn Banfield started in goal for Webster, but
Heather Jones played a majority of the game as she made five saves in the contest.
The Gorloks will return to the field on Wednesday, September 14
th when they travel to Greenville, Illinois, to take on the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers in their first SLIAC game of the season. The match is set to kick-off at 7 p.m.
