GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Webster University women's soccer team kicked off SLIAC play this evening when they traveled to Greenville, Illinois, to take on the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers. The Gorloks fell to the Panthers by a final score of 5-2 to fall to 3-3 on the year. With the win, the Panthers improve to 2-1-2 on the year.
Webster was outshot 15-7 in the contest and put three shots on goal compared to 11 from the Panthers. Greenville also led in the corner count as they finished with three compered to two from the Gorloks.
The Gorloks got on the board early in this one as
Grace Rodgers took advantage of a mishit clearance by the Greenville defender in the 10
th minute of the game. The defender knocked the ball right to the foot of Rodgers who took one touch and chipped it over the keeper and into the side netting for her second of the season.
Jordan Lande added to the Gorloks lead in the 34
th minute of the game as she was able to finish off her third of the season.
Reyce Reller played a long ball out of the back to Lande who was able to use her speed to beat a couple defenders and slid the ball past the Greenville keeper to give Webster a 2-0 advantage at the break.
The second half did not go the Gorloks way as the Panthers scored five unanswered goals in the 51
st, the 57
th, the 70
th, the 74
th, and the 76
th minute to solidify the comeback win.
Taryn Banfield was in goal tonight as she made six saves in the contest.
The Gorloks will return to the field on Saturday, September 17
th when they travel to Centene Stadium in Clayton, Missouri, to take on the Fontbonne (Mo.) University Griffins. The game is set to start at 5 p.m.
