MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Webster University women's soccer team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Monmouth, Illinois, to take on the Monmouth (Ill.) College Fighting Scots. The Gorloks improved to 2-0 on the year as they defeated the Fighting Scots by a final score of 2-0. With the loss, Monmouth falls of 1-1 on the season.
The Gorloks outshot the Fighting Scots 21-1 and had 11 shots on target. They finished the game with four corner kicks while Monmouth did not have any.
Webster controlled the pace of the game from the start in this one. They were able to get on the board in the 34
th minute when
Mackenzie Sundhausen played a ball across the mouth of the goal where
Abbey Poe was waiting to tap it in. The goal was Poe's second of the season while the assist was Sundhausen's first.
Poe was back at it again in the 68
th minute of contest to give the Gorloks a 2-0 advantage. The ball bounced to her just outside of the box and she ripped a shot into the lower left corner of the goal for her third of the year.
Taryn Banfield (2-0) was in goal for the Gorloks as she did not record a save in her first solo shutout of the season.
The Gorloks are back at home on Monday, September 5
th when they play host to the Anderson (Ind.) University Ravens at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. The game is set to start at noon.
