ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's soccer team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Anderson (Ind.) University Ravens for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks fell to the Ravens by a final score of 2-1 to fall to 2-1 on the season. With the win, the Ravens improve to 1-0-1 on the year.
Webster outshot the Ravens by a final count of 19-12 and had 12 shots on target compared to seven from the Ravens. The Gorloks also won the corner count as they finished with three in the contest compared to two from Anderson.
After a scoreless first half, the Gorloks were able to get on the board first in the 55
th minute of the game.
Grace Rodgers found
Jordan Lande at the top of the box who curled a shot with her right foot into the side netting for her second tally of the season. The goal was the 51
st of her career which is tied for fourth all-time on the Gorlok's all-time scoring list with Webster Athletics Hall of Famer Mary Jo Clark.
The Gorloks continued to play well over the next few minutes, but a goal from the Ravens in the 70
th minute tied the score at one. They added a second goal just seven minutes later and held off the Gorloks down the stretch to solidify the win.
Taryn Banfield (2-1) was in goal for this one as she made five saves in the contest.
The Gorloks will return to the field on Wednesday, September 7
th when they travel to Decatur, Illinois, to take on Millikin (Ill.) University. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
