ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced the Women's Track & Field Preseason Coaches Poll for the 2022-23 indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. The Gorloks were picked to finish second in the poll after receiving 43 points. Greenville (Ill.) University was picked to win the conference as they finished with 49 points in the poll.
The Gorloks return eight athletes from last years team that finished second in both the SLIAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships. In addition to the returners, the Gorloks also welcome three newcomers.
Of the eight returners, four of them received All-SLIAC recognition a season ago including
Vanessa Jones,
Micah Barnes,
Jordan Lande, and
Isabelle Llewellyn. Jones, a graduate student or of Orlando, Florida, earned All-SLIAC honors in the 200-meter (Indoor), 60-meter hurdles (indoor), 100-meter hurdles (outdoor), 400-meter (outdoor), and the 4x400-meter relay (indoor/outdoor). Barnes, a senior out of O'Fallon, Missouri, earned All-SLIAC honors in the 400-meter (outdoor) and the 4x400-meter relay (indoor/outdoor). Lande, a graduate student out of Sachse, Texas, earned All-SLIAC honors in the 4x400-meter relay (indoor/outdoor). Llewellyn, a sophomore out of Macon, Missouri, earned All-SLIAC recognition in the discus throw (outdoor) and the javelin throw (outdoor).
The team also returns
Kyanne Ruth Williams who did not compete for the Gorloks last season. The 2022 NCAA Division III Cross Country National Qualifier earned All-SLIAC honors in the 400-meter hurdles and 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2021 SLIAC Outdoor Championships.
The Gorloks will return to the track on Saturday, January 21
st when they travel to Jacksonville, Illinois, to compete in the Snow Bird Invite at Illinois College. The meet is set to start at 10 a.m.
