Gorloks Score 100 Points in Win

CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The Webster University women's basketball team was back in action this evening when they traveled to Carlinville, Illinois, to take on the Blackburn (Ill.) College Beavers for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Beavers by a final score of 100-50 to improve to 16-2 on the season and 6-1 in conference play. With the loss, the Beavers fall to 2-15 on the year and 0-7 in the SLIAC.

Webster went 40-for-91 (44.0%) from the floor and 6-for-18 (33.3%) from behind the arc. They outrebouned the Beavers by a final count of 51-37 with 25 rebounds coming on the offensive end. Webster forced Blackburn to turn the ball over 38 times and turned those turnovers into 48 points on the other end of the floor. The Gorloks scored 58 of their 100 points in the paint and dished out 24 assists.

Webster came out in the first quarter and played tough defense to start the game as they did not allow a point for the first 8:30 of the contest. They jumped out to a 24-0 lead over that stretch and took a 27-4 advantage into the second. Webster continued to play well in the second quarter and pushed their lead to as many as 34 before taking a 48-15 lead into the locker room.

The Gorloks ­­­came out in the third and extended their lead to 51 midway through the frame. The Beavers picked it up as the quarter progressed but Webster would take a 73-29 lead into the fourth. They would outscore the Beavers 27-21 in the final quarter and cruise to their fourth straight win.

Julie Baudendistel was the leading scorer for the Gorloks as she finished with a team high 14 points to go along with six rebounds. Kate Rolfes, Bethany Lancaster, and Trinniti Matthews also finished in double-figures as Rolfes finished with 13 points, Lancaster finished with 12 points, and Matthews added 10 points. Lancaster also pulled down a team high eight rebounds while Nysa Gilchrist dished out a team high five assists.

The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, January 28th when they host the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 1 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
