ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's soccer team was back in action this evening when they traveled down Big Bend Road to take on the third ranked Washington (Mo.) University Bears for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks fell to the Bears by a final score 3-0 to drop to 5-3-1 on the season. With the win, the Bears move to 9-0 on the year.
Webster was outshot 23-6 in the match and put two shots on target compared to seven from WashU. The Bears also led in the corner count as they finished with eight while Webster had four.
The Gorloks came out in the first half and had a chance to score in the first 15 minutes of the game. The Bears settled in as the half progressed and found the back of the net in the 35
th minute to take a 1-0 lead. WashU turned up the pressure to end the half but the score would remain 1-0 at the break.
In the second half, Webster came out and forced the WashU keeper to make two saves in the first 20 minutes of the period. However, the Bears were able to pick up a goal in the 77
th minute and a goal in the 79
th minute to solidify the 3-0 win.
Courtney Haneline (5-3-1) was in goal for Webster as she recorded four saves in the contest.
The Gorloks are back in action on Friday, October 6
th when they travel to Eureka, Illinois, to take on the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to kick off at 3 p.m.
