Four Gorloks Earn SLIAC Awards

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced the Player of the Week awards for the week ending on Sunday, October 29th. For their efforts this past week, Danny Nusinovic was named the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, Malaya Blakely was named the Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, Angie Calabrese was named the Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, and Lauren Borik was named the Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.

Nusinovic, a sophomore out of St. Louis, Missouri, played a big role in helping the Gorloks solidify the fourth seed in the SLIAC Men's Soccer Championships this past week. He scored two goals on the week, including one against Principia (Ill.) College and one against Lyon (Ark.) College, to help the Gorloks finish the regular season with a 6-9-3 overall record and a 4-3-2 mark in conference play. This marks his first career SLIAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award.

Blakely, a freshman out of Fort Wayne, Indiana, had a career day on Saturday in an 8-0 win over Lyon (Ark.) College. She scored her first career hat trick and added an assist for a career high seven points. She finished the regular season with a team high 10 goals to go along with three assists for 23 total points. Her 23 total points are tied for the team lead. This marks her first career SLIAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award.

Calabrese, a senior out of San Marcos, California, had a great week for the Gorloks out of the right back position. She scored a goal and added three assists for five total points in two wins on the week. She scored a goal and had two assists in a 5-1 win over Principia (Ill.) College and then went on to record an assist in an 8-0 win over Lyon (Ark.) College. She also helped anchor a back line that allowed just one goal in 180 minutes of action. This marks her second career SLIAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award.

Borik, a graduate student out of Belleville, Illinois, helped lift the Gorloks to two wins last week. She led the team with 64 digs on the week including 25 against the 12th ranked WashU (Mo.) Bears and a career high 35 against Mississippi University for Women. She currently ranks eighth in the SLIAC with 358 digs on the season. This is her third SLIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week award this season.
