ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's basketball team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Anderson (Ind.) University Ravens for the 2023 Webster Tip-Off Classic Championship game. The Gorloks defeated the Ravens by a final score of 101-62 to improve to 2-0 on the season. With the loss, the Ravens drop to 1-1 on the year.
Webster went 33-for-69 (47.8%) from the field and 5-for-18 (27.8%) from behind the arc. They were outrebounded 40-39 in the game and finished with 18 offensive rebounds. They dished out 21 assists in the game while forcing Anderson to turn the ball over 43 times. Webster turned Anderson's turnovers into 45 points on the other end of the floor.
Webster came out in the first quarter and jumped out to an early 13-6 lead. The Gorloks would push their lead to as many as eight in the quarter, but a 13-6 run from Anderson to end the quarter would cut the lead to 25-24 heading into the second. Webster would turn up the pressure in the second quarter and made it difficult for Anderson to get anything going. They would outscore the Ravens 30-10 in the quarter and take a 55-34 lead into the locker room.
The Gorloks would carry their momentum over into the third quarter and pushed their lead to 32 midway through the period. The Ravens were able to cut the lead back down to 29, but Webster would take an 80-47 lead into the final quarter. The Gorloks would extend their lead out to as many as 41 in the fourth and cruised to their second straight win.
Julie Baudendistel led the way for Webster as she finished with a game high 19 points while pulling down seven rebounds.
Kate Rolfes and
Emily Wilson also played well as Rolfes finished with 15 points while Wilson added 14. Wilson also recorded seven rebounds to go along with a career high six assists from
Mariana Brick.
Following the conclusion of the tournament, the all-tournament team was announced.
Julie Baudendistel was named the most valuable player while
Kate Rolfes was named to the all-tournament team.
The Gorloks will hit the road for the first time this season on Wednesday, November 15
th when they travel to Jacksonville, Illinois, to take on Illinois College for a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
