Gorloks Win Third Straight

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Webster University women's basketball team was back in action this evening when they traveled to Jacksonville, Illinois, to take on the Illinois College Lady Blues for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks defeated Illinois College by a final score of 79-53 to improve to 3-0 on the season. With the loss, Illinois College drops to 1-2 on the year.

The Gorloks went 24-for-65 (36.9%) from the floor and 3-for-11 (27.3%) from behind the arc. They were outrebounded 45-43 and pulled down 14 boards on the offensive end. They forced Illinois College to turn the ball over 30 times and turned those turnovers into 28 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also recorded 16 steals while dishing out 15 assists.

Webster came out in the first quarter of the game and found themselves trailing 12-10 midway through the frame. They picked it up as the quarter progressed and used a 7-2 run to take a 17-14 lead into the second. They carried over their momentum into the second and opened the quarter on a 9-4 run to extend their lead to eight. The Lady Blues would cut the lead down to six with just over two minutes to play in the period, but the Gorloks would outscore them 5-3 in the final minutes to take a 36-28 lead into the locker room.

The Gorloks came out of the locker room and went on a 15-7 run to extend their lead to 16. The Lady Blues would cut the lead to 12, but the Gorloks would take a 56-43 lead into the final frame. Illinois College cut the lead to single digits to start the fourth, but another run from Webster would put them up 17 late in the game. They would close out the Lady Blues down the stretch and cruise to their third win of the season.

Bethany Lancaster led the way for the Gorloks as she recorded a game high 21 points, a game high 12 rebounds, and a game high five steals. Emily Wilson and Julie Baudendistel also played well as Wilson finished with 19 points and seven rebounds while Baudendistel recorded 16 points.

The Gorloks will return to the court on Tuesday, November 21st when they travel to Fulton, Missouri, to open up conference play against Westminster (Mo.) College. The rematch of last years SLIAC Women's Basketball Tournament Final is set to start at 12 p.m.
