Gorloks Drop Road Contest to Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Webster university men's basketball team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Memphis, Tennessee, to take on the Rhodes (Tenn.) College Lynx for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Lynx by a final score of 91-67 to fall to 1-4 on the season. With he win, Rhodes improves to 2-3 on the season.

The Gorloks went 25-for-61 (41.0%) from the floor and 4-for-19 (21.1%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Lynx 43-34 and pulled down 14 boards on the offensive end. The Gorloks forced nine turnovers in the game while recording 10 total assists.

Rhodes got off to a quick start this afternoon as they jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game. Webster settled in and cut the lead to four, but another run from Rhodes put them up 24-8 midway through the half. They would push their lead to as many as 27 in the period and would take a 51-28 lead into the locker room.

Webster came out in the second half and cut the lead to 20 in the first two minutes of the frame. Rhodes would push their lead back out to 27, but 10-2 run from Webster would cut the lead to 19 with just over 10 minutes to play in the game. The Lynx would extend their lead back out to 28 over the next few minutes and would cruise to their second win of the year.

Booker Simmons led the way for Webster as he finished with a team high 13 points to go along with five rebounds. Jason Coleman also played well as he finished with 11 points and six rebounds. In addition, Justin Ugo finished with nine points while Nate Jones recorded a team high eight rebounds.

The Gorloks will return to the court on Tuesday, November 28th when they travel down Big Bend to take on the Washington (Mo.) University Bears for a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
