Gorloks Outlast Central for Sixth Win

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's basketball team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Central (Iowa) College Dutch for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Dutch by a final score of 56-48 to improve to 6-0 on the season. With the loss, the Dutch drop to 3-3 on the year.

The Gorloks went 19-for-55 (34.5%) from the floor and 1-for-5 (20.0%) from behind the arc. They were outrebounded by the Dutch by a final count of 46-28 and had eight rebounds on the offensive end. They forced the Dutch to turn the ball over 33 times and turned those turnovers into 23 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 11 assists while racking up 17 steals.

Webster came out in the first quarter and took it to the Dutch early as they started the game on a 7-0 run to take an early lead. The Dutch battled back and tied the score at seven, but the Gorloks would outscore them 7-6 down the stretch to take a 14-13 lead into the second. Central came out in the second and went on a 9-0 run to take a 22-14 lead in the game. The Gorloks battled back and ended the quarter on a 14-5 run to take a 28-27 lead into the locker room.

The Dutch came out in the third quarter and started the half on a 10-2 run to take a seven point lead in the game. Webster would cut the lead down to five, but the Dutch would extend their lead back out to 10 before taking a 44-37 lead into the final frame. Webster turned up the pressure to start the fourth and were able to tie the score at 44 before ending the game on a 12-4 run to solidify their sixth straight win.

Emily Wilson and Julie Baudendistel led the way for Webster as Wilson scored 15 points and added eight rebounds while Baudendistel recorded 15 points with six rebounds. Jordyn Grimes and Megan Illingworth also played well as Grimes finished with 11 points while Illingworth added six points and five rebounds.

The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, December 2nd when they play host to the Westminster (Mo.) College Blue Jays for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 1 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
