WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. – The Webster University men's basketball team was back in action this evening when they traveled to Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, to take on the Crown (Minn.) College Polars for their first game of the Milwaukee Bucks Shootout. The Gorloks fell to the Polars by a final score of 82-70 to drop to 2-8 on the season. With the win, the Polars move to 8-3 on the year.
Webster went 26-for-62 (41.9%) from the floor and 5-for-11 (45.5%) from behind the arc. They were outrebounded by the Polars by a final count of 33-22 with eight rebounds coming on the offensive end. Webster forced Crown to turn the ball over 19 times in the game while turning those turnovers into 17 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 10 assists.
Webster came out in the first half of the game and found themselves trailing 8-2 in the first four minutes. They battled back and tied the score at 10, but a 13-2 run from the Polars over the next few minutes would put them up 23-12 midway through the half. The Gorloks would cut the lead back down to single digits, but another run from Crown would put them up 15 late in the period. Webster would score the final four points of the half and the Polars would take a 35-24 lead into the locker room.
Crown came out of the locker room and quickly extended their lead back to 16 in the first two minutes of the half. Webster would settle in as the period progressed and answered with a 14-1 run to cut the lead to three. The Polars would push their lead back out to 15 over the next few minutes and never let the Gorloks back in the game as they closed them out down the stretch to solidify the win.
Nate Jones led the way offensively for Webster as he finished with a team high 15 points to go along with a team high four assists.
Jason Coleman and
Alpha Diallo also finished in double figures as Coleman had 12 points while Diallo had 13 points. In addition,
Jalen Davis finished with nine points while
Karl Moore Jr. had eight.
The Gorloks will have a short turnaround and be back in action tomorrow, December 16
th when they take on Martin Luther (Minn.) College for their final game of the Milwaukee Bucks Shootout. The game is set to start at noon.
